Plasma Activated Water in Vertical Farming

Plasma Activated Water (PAW) is produced out of air, water and electricity. The process is copied out of nature and is a mimicry of lightning in a thunderstorm. Shortly after activation PAW obtains unique properties that can be used to improve plant health an plant resilience. These temporary properties disappear and what remains is a natural nitrogen nutrient.

Both properties of PAW can be used in vertical farming, it improves plant health and can be used as liquid nutrient in feedwater for crops and plants. VitalFluid has developed plasma equipment capable of producing PAW on-site and on demand, it’s an on-farm input. In the presentation you will learn more about the backgrounds of PAW, how it is produced and it’s applications in vertical farming and agriculture.

What drives you?

I would like to contribute to creating a more circular and sustainable food production by offering clean alternatives for agrochemicals.

Why should the delegate attend your presentation?

You will have the opportunity to learn about an innovative emerging technology that has the potential to disrupt the current use of nitrogen fertilizers and pesticides.

What emerging technologies/trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?

The use of agricultural sensor technology.

What kind of impact do you expect them to have?

Sensor technology will enable precision farming that will further improve fertilizer efficiency and reduce the use of pesticides. It offers the possibility to apply only on the spot where it is needed to have the desired effect.

What are the barriers that might stand in the way?

For our PAW technology the main barrier are laws and regulation. The approval for application of PAW to improve plant resilience and plant health is difficult. We have to be very careful that your product is not framed incorrectly since we are certainly not the newest chemical pesticide.

For the fertilizing properties of our plasmawater we see many differences in organic regulations and certifications in Europe and the US.
