Controlling multicellular organization by sound

The application of extrinsic fields opens exciting new perspectives to organise cells, materials and biochemical factors for morphogenesis and morphologically relevant tissue generation in a time-effective, user-friendly and contact-free manner. First, I will present our research activities on the use of extrinsic fields for contactless cell assembly and stimulation. I will then focus on our sound-based assembly approach for patterning and locally enhancing cell density and related technology transfer activities.

A presentation by Tiziano Serra, Group Leader at AO Research Institute Davos.

About Tiziano Serra
Tiziano Serra is a Focus Area Leader at AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland, and an Assistant Professor at MERLN Institute (Maastricht University, NL). He holds an MSc in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Salento (IT) and earned his Ph.D. in 3D printing for tissue engineering from the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (ES).

He was a postdoctoral fellow at University College London (UK) and received the ISBF Young Investigator Award and Julia Polak European Doctoral Award. Dr. Serra invented a sound-based biofabrication tech, successfully licensed to mimiX Biotherapeutics, a pioneering Swiss startup in the field.
